Different varieties of rice

Types

There are thousands of varieties of rice available in the world. All of these have not really been identified.

Species

Oryza sativa has grown in different parts of Asia between 8200 and 13500 years. Oryza glaberrima, which originated in Mali, Africa between 2,000 and 3000 years ago. Generally, these are the two different types of rice. The most widespread species in the world today is the Oryza sativa. This species can be further subdivided into three subdivisions. They are Oryza sativa Japonica, Orissa Sativa Javanica and Orissa sativa Indica. They all came from the same plant that grew on the banks of the Pearl River in China over a period of 13500 years. Oryza rufipogon, the mother plant of the genus Oryza Sativa, is still found in China.

Japonica and its subdivision Sinica are sticky short grains. Growing in drylands. Indica is cultivated in highlands and slightly cooler lands. Most of the Indica long-grain stalks are submerged in water. Cultivated in the lowlands of tropical Asia.

Some scientists classify Sativa as japonica, indica, glutinous, aromatica.

The African genus Oryza glaberrima is found only in West Africa. Glaberrima yields are low, rice is easy to shorten, but is resistant to insects and worms. Oryza barthii, is the original wild species of Globerima. It still grows in the forests of West Africa. Now they have mixed African rice and Indica to form new rice called New Africa.

There are more than 20 wildlife species in Oryza, but what we refer to as the Wild Rice is a completely different wild grass species, Zizania.

Black rice

Called black, but its true color is purple. Its purple color is due to a number of powerful antioxidants, such as anthocyanins. This is why it is said to be the number one rice in the world. Anthocyanins, also found in blueberries and blackberries, can remove free radicals that cause heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Reduces allergic reactions. Black rice contains six times more antioxidants than any other food grain. When viewed as a type of rice, only black rice contains these. Its main anti-inflammatory chemical, C3G, is a natural remedy for arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease.

Black rice is rich in vitamins, fiber, and minerals. Also makes you feel full when you eat it, which is ideal for weight loss. Working against insulin rejection is a natural defense against diabetes and obesity.

Wild Rice

In botanical terms, we cannot call this rice. It's a grass type. Wild rice contains proteins, manganese, magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus, which are good for strengthening muscle, bones, and ligament joints. Contains 30% fewer calories than brown rice. Contains more than 40% protein. Wild rice is the best food to keep control of the sugar level in the body. Substituting white rice with wild rice in the diet immediately reduces insulin rejection and lowers triglyceride levels. It is rich in magnesium, fiber, and other minerals which help the cataract to handle this glucose control mechanism effectively. Don't worry about obesity as it is low in calories

Brown Rice

It does not take much time to thresh the paddy so the brown rice keeps its bran intact. There are four types of brown rice. They are short, medium, long, and light brown. All brown rice has the same nutrition. However, their cooking time varies. Brown rice contains 4 times more magnesium than white rice. It also contains thiamine, zinc, and iron. Magnesium is important for the heart, bone, muscle, and brain. It is also more suitable for diabetics than white rice as it is faster to absorb in the body than white rice. It provides 88% of our daily manganese requirement and also helps in the production of collagen, healthy skin, joints, and ligaments.

Red Rice

Red rice contains anthocyanin-like antioxidants, although not as much as black rice. It is a guard against allergies, inflammation, and cancer. Controls premenstrual pain called PMS in women. It is also an ideal food for diabetics. The Chinese distill a liquid called Xuezhikang from red rice. It contains Monacolin K. Like lovastatin, it works to control LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Basmati Rice

Basmati rice is preferred by people with intestinal problems due to its tenderness. There are also niacin and thiamine. Athletes like it in their diet because of its high-quality carbohydrates

Jasmine rice

Unlike plain white rice, it contains niacin and iron.

Arborio rice

Arborio rice is grown only in Italy. This rice is the reason behind risotto foods creamy and delicious. Not too many nutrients in this rice. Not ideal for diabetics

White rice

Nothing special to say. Not ideal for diabetics

Glutinous sticky rice

Glutinous rice is low quality than white rice and is used for preparing DESSERT in Chinese restaurants.

Cauliflower rice

Cauliflower can be eaten like tice. It is also available in stores. Very rich in nutrients. But since it is actually not rice.
